Archway Lincoln Fifth Grade

Striving for Knowledge and Virtue

Month: April 2022

Week of 4/25-4/29, 2022

Dear 5th Grade Families:

We are past the State Testing challenge, and we are all enjoying a sense of relief.  We still have a fair number of school days left, and although Spring Fever is sweeping through the school, we plan to finish the year strong and continue to engage our students in meaningful learning until the very end.  We have a full week of classes this week, and a busy time ahead, with graduation around the corner.  Our last round of Galileo testing is also on the horizon, which will give us good information on middle school readiness, so encourage them to persevere and show off how far they have come since August!

Here is the curricular information for this week:

Math – In Math, we started our second to last unit! This unit will cover the new concept of ratio, and it will also review the concepts of line plots and coordinate planes. This is a quick unit, so the test will be next Tuesday, 5/3.

Science – In Science, we will continue reviewing the parts, functions, and importance of our skeletal system, bones, and joints.  Please ensure your scholar is studying for our upcoming test, this Thursday, 4/28.  On Friday, we will begin our last unit, which will cover the nervous and endocrine body systems.

History – This week we will be  learning about the English Civil War, Charles I’s demise, and the events leading up to the Glorious Revolution.  There will be a notebook check on Friday for Chapters 1-3, to promote and encourage good note-taking habits.

English Language Arts –

Grammar

  • We will continue to practice 5th Grade Grammar standards with spiral reviews and weekly homework in the coming weeks.

Literature

  • This week we are focusing on character traits, and ways to discern them through the character’s words, actions, or through things the author or other characters say about them. If you would like to purchase your student their own copy, It can be found at this link.

GYV

  • Students will be  working  independently on their GYV books in the next few weeks.  There will be a weekly study chart for homework on Mondays, which we will correct together on Tuesdays during class and use as a study guide for Friday’s weekly test.  Students will have time to work on book exercises throughout the day, so you will see less overall GYV homework besides the weekly spelling practice on Wednesdays.  If your student does not  already have the book, here is an informational link for  Book C/6.  You may purchase your student’s copy anywhere books are sold.
